i got a new camera
switching from canon to fujifilm and how it feels
just before the year ended i felt the need to upgrade my camera after shooting with my canon 6d for nearly ten years. it’s still running just fine btw but i wanted something more compact, mirrorless, and high-quality. those three qualifications along with an already deep desire to own a fujifilm camera led me to the fujifilm xt5. i bought the camera body + 23mm 1.4 lens new and was able to find a 16mm 2.8 + 27mm 2.8 used in pristine condition which i took as i sign of good things to come :)
i’m only three months into using it regularly for both photos and video and i only have good things to say. it’s also crazy how this switch has sparked my creativity when it comes to shooting photos. pottery takes up most of my time these days, so getting this new shiny toy that i needed to figure out has been life-giving in many ways. i bring it with me everywhere, pull it out when i feel inspired and have been enjoying editing so much more. it’s crazy how much muscle memory is involved in operating a camera and after some time getting used to the layout, i finally feel adjusted to its rhythm and have found my flow while shooting and filming.
i have never been much of a zoom lens girl so being able to get three different lenses that would suit most situations i’d be in made me really happy. the simple fact that they are so small in comparison to my canon gear i feel infinitely lighter knowing that i can have all three with me and not feel any back pain. it’s also been fun to challenge myself by leaving the house with either a really wide lens or a tight one and see what comes of it. the winner thus far is definitely the 23mm, it’s just the perfect focal length for everything always and it’s the sharpest of the three.
i’m excited to continue to grow, learn and sharpen my skills with this camera around my neck.
