meet the photographer
it’s jamie, here.
j, if you’re family.
jim, james, jg, jamie g, or j baby if you’re my pal.
i’m an orlando native, married to my best bud bobby and i’m the gal behind the camera.
taking photos wasn’t my first form of creative expression — words in the form of poetry and journaling had it beat; still does in some ways —but it quickly became my most loved when i received my first camera in middle school. and in that moment i went from that friend to that friend with the camera who’s always taking pictures. i’m assuming that everybody had one — the one who insists on making a moment a memory either by snapping without direction or orchestrating group photos and making anything a tripod for self-timer shots. i would go to walgreens regularly with a flash drive in hand, printing photos from a field trip, sleepover, or party. so thrilling.
not much has changed. the desire to make moments into memories is still at the core of what i do both in work and my personal life. my skill ~thankfully~ has evolved with experience but i love that there’s still a raw, real, lived-in feel to my work.
on the average day i am probably writing about the sunrise on my patio with matcha in hand, reading harry potter again because i was deprived of it when i was young, getting buttermilk and bopping around to all my fave local spots, laughing on the couch with bobby, doing yoga with adriene and benji, squeezing my nieces because i don’t know how people can be so cute, or squeezing my friends because i don’t know how you can love people so much. i’m a homebody at heart but my camera roll will show you that i do in fact get out. it’s filled with snapshots that i feel my younger self would love.
thinking in poems and capturing the good light are things i can’t help but do daily. i think we all have something like that, some habits we wish we would stop doing and some we know we can’t live without. as i have gotten older, i’ve learned to notice how i feel when i do things that are good for me ( doing yoga everyday, eating more veggies, taking walks, going to bed at nine, waking up early, etc. ) and cling to that feeling like my life depends on it, because i think it does.
